Disease underlies Hatfield-McCoy feud (AP) AP – The most infamous feud in American folklore, the long-running battle between the Hatfields and McCoys, may be partly explained by a rare, inherited disease that can lead to hair-trigger rage and violent outbursts.

Jesus’ Tomb?

February 26, 2007

http://www.mercurynews.com/mld/mercurynews/news/world/16789186.htm

Biblical experts and archaeologists who are familiar with the central evidence instantly discounted the claim, which Discovery Channel has touted as possibly “the greatest archaeological find in history,” as an ill-informed, recycled publicity grab.

The chances that the findings in “The Lost Tomb of Jesus” are real “are more than remote,” Israel Museum curator David Mevorah said. “They are closer to fantasy.”

WASHINGTON: The burial site of Jesus has been found and suggests he had a wife and son, according to highly sensitive claims in a documentary by Titanic director James Cameron and Simcha Jacobovici. The claims inject controversy into the issue of resurrection central to Christianity and, if accurate, could reignite questions about Jesus’ earthy family life popularised in the book The Da Vinci Code.

Cameron and Jacobovici, an award-winning documentary director, said their research suggested Jesus married Mary Magdalene and had a son, Judah.

If you listen to the researchers, they’ll tell you they may have uncovered the greatest archeological find in history. Talk to the critics, however, and it’s a different viewpoint regarding the news. They say it’s a massive publicity stunt for a soon-to-air TV documentary. Either way, the central finding of this research appears to discredit a bedrock belief of the Christian faith.

Inscriptions on the boxes, in addition to DNA tests of tiny bits of tissue found inside, suggest that the cave was the final resting place of Jesus, his disciple Mary Magdalene, and their son, the filmmakers said.

The claims, if verified, could threaten key tenets of the Christian faith, most notably that Jesus never married or had children and that he was resurrected three days after his death.

“The evidence is compelling,” said Jane Root, president of Discovery Channel, which will air the film on Sunday. “The consequences are enormous.”

Meet the Jesuses! Cameron told the press that when Jacobovici, who has been working on the project for years, laid it out for him in detail, he thought, “I’m not a biblical scholar, but it seemed pretty darned compelling.” He added, “I said, this is the biggest achaeology story of the century. And I still believe that to be true.”

If true, of course, it is more than that. If true, it is a contradiction, in the most earthy, concrete way, of the Bible, which claims that Jesus was taken up bodily into heaven.

But as its creators have revealed more and more of it over the last two days, key parts of it seem increasingly like debatable conjecture.

Expert: ‘Hybrid’ Creature Is Just a Dog

TURNER, Maine — An expert who examined the remains of a mystery creature believes it was a wild dog. But that hasn’t stopped runaway speculation about the beast and whether it was responsible for mauling dogs and frightening residents.Loren Coleman, a Portland author and cryptozoologist, said he didn’t know for sure what the animal was based on his examination of its remains Wednesday.

“I think this dead animal is a chow or chow-mix, a relatively small dog, that was feral, which is unusual for that area,” he told the Sun Journal newspaper.

FIRST NEWS FROM THE GAMBIAN DRAGON HUNTERS

Tuesday, July 5th 2006
For immediate release

The Centre for Fortean Zoology [CFZ], the world’s largest mystery animal
research group, based in rural North Devon announced tonight that they have
received the first news bulletin from their expedition in West Africa. The
J.T.Downes memorial Gambia Expedition 2006 has three main aims:

· To dig up part of a beach where an amateur naturalist claims to have buried
the carcass of a mysterious fifteen foot sea creature
· To get the first filmed witness testimonies of a dragon-like creature, known
to the natives as `Ninki Nanka`, which has terrorized the tiny African state for
generations, and has reportedly killed people as recently as the 1990s
· To get the first photographs and film of Armitage’s Skink (Chalcides
armitagei) – a tiny lizard first described in 1922 and only rediscovered in
1989.

Richard Freeman, the Zoological Director of the CFZ writes:

“A little way up Bungalow Beach we came upon a market place where jewellers made
silver Ninki-Nankas. Chris Moiser has known about these traditional designs for
years, and knew the man who made them. One of the sellers, Baka Samba told us
that his late uncle, a hunter, had seen Ninki-Nanka many years ago. He could not
describe it well, as his uncle only described it as very big and terrible. It
had four legs, a long tail and an awful looking head. He said it had fire in its
mouth. This may actually mean that the inside of the creature’s mouth was red,
or that it had a red/orange forked tongue that flickered in and out like flame.
He said that the creature was very dangerous, and that those who saw it usually
died within four or five years of the sighting”.

Another local told them of a “lake in Senegal where Ninki-Nanka was supposed to
live. The lake was five kilometers long and was about 250 kilometers away. He
said he had seen strange lights on the lake at night, and large disturbances in
the water during the day. He drew a furrow in the earth and said he had seen
drag-marks like these, but around four feet across around the lake”.

The expedition will be in the Gambia for the next two weeks, and hopes to come
home with conclusive evidence for the existence of these creatures, which
Freeman (36) believes are a hitherto undiscovered species of extremely large
Monitor Lizard.

Team members are:

· Chris Moiser: Biologist and team leader
· Dr Chris Clark: Engineer
· Lisa Dowley: First aid and security expert
· Richard Freeman: cryptozoologist
· Oll Lewis: Ecologist
· Suzi Marsh: computer expert

You can follow the progress of the expedition at:

So, over the weekend, I was drawn to this show on the Travel Channel –

Loretta Lynn's Haunted Plantation

Tour Hurricane Mills, Loretta Lynn's haunted plantation in the hills of Tennessee. After taking possession of the historic home in 1966, the Lynn Family discovered the grounds were haunted by Confederate Civil War ghosts and a mysterious woman in white.

And you probably didn't know this either:

Legendary country performer Loretta Lynn is no stranger to ghosts and in fact, has spent her entire life in their presence. While her encounters with the supernatural have never received the kind of attention that her performing career have.. Lynn is said to be a bonafide psychic and when asked about this, she is always willing to talk about it. — read the whole page here: http://www.prairieghosts.com/hur_mills.html

and…

While the movie explores her road to success and some troubling times in her life, there is a whole other piece of Loretta Lynn that few are aware of — her psychic abilities. — http://enchanted-dreams.us/coldspot/hauntings/hurricanemills.html

as for the hauntings…

Other strange happenings have occurred on the property, as well. Gaye Crowell, the assistant manager of the ranch went out on a balcony shortly after September 11th, to hang red, white, and blue banners, and was locked out with two other women. No one locked the door. They were stuck until getting someone's attention on the ground below. She feels one of the ghosts locked her out there just for the sakes of mischief.http://enchanted-dreams.us/coldspot/hauntings/hurricanemills.html

So is it true? Who knows? It's a little shady, but it was interesting at least to hear her and the family say the word "sow-jers" over and over again when referring to Confederate Soldiers.

Alien in duck's belly? This undated photo provided by the International Bird Rescue Research Center, shows an X-ray taken Sunday, May 21, 2006, of an injured duck with a broken wing.

The International Bird Rescue Research Center in Cordelia. Calif., plans to raise funds with an unusual duck X-ray, which they say shows the clear image of what appears to be the face, or head, of an extraterrestrial alien in the bird's stomach.

Unfortunately, the duck died quickly and quietly of its injuries. (AP Photo/International Bird Rescue Research Center, Marie Travers)

The Brownsville Herald – Online Edition:

May 8, 2006 — Hidden in the shadows outside of civilization, monsters are believed by some to exist.

According to folklore, a large primate stalks the Pacific Northwest and a giant reptile lurks in the depths of a Scottish lake.

And in South Texas, people carefully watch the skies for Big Bird, a flying creature that terrorized the area in 1976.

“This bird’s got a habit of going after people,” said Guadalupe Cantu III, an eye witness. “This is strictly a nighttime bird, though. … From 11 o’clock on, everybody’s bait.”
